of America’s 55 best trainers."
- Vogue Magazine
"I have found the fitness
field to be tremendously satisfying, fulfilling my desire to teach, communicate,
and cooperate."
Certifications: M. Ed., NASM, ISSA
Roberta Lenard has spent more
than 20 years working in the fitness field. She graduated from Springfield
College in 1987 with a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology and has taught
internationally as a National Academy of Sports Medicine master trainer.
She is a former world-class rower and combines a long and varied experience
as an athlete and trainer with knowledge of physiology and a commitment
to physical and emotional well-being. Her personal experience in dealing
with a chronic immune disorder has had a strong influence on her fitness
philosophy. In her work she strives to teach students and clients how
to overcome setbacks and stay aligned with their long-term goals for fitness
and health.
In 1995, she expanded her private
business to include a select group of trainers who share her "Life Philosophy."
They also share the same fitness philosophy and follow the essential training
principles as set forth in the guidelines for the NASM.
These precepts
include:
- Identifying and strengthening any weak
links, strengthening the muscles that stabilize joints.
- Teaching the safest and
most effective ways to work each muscle through its optimal path and
range of motion.
- Providing appropriately challenging and
creative changes to exercise routines, breaking through physiological
and psychological plateaus, and maximizing each individual’s fitness
potential.
Roberta Lenard was recently featured as one
of four personal trainers on the PBS health and fitness documentary, "Get
a Life With Loretta LaRoche"; the program aired nationwide in December
and January of 2000-2001.
Catherine Lenard, Vice President
"You
are never too old to change if you have enough determination and faith
in yourself."
Certifications: M.A., FRA, M.A.T. Jumpstart, RTS Training
Catherine is Vice President of Lenard Fitness, and she firmly believes that you are never too old to change if you have even a little determination and faith in yourself. She provides a well-balanced program for her clients combining elements from her years of studying dance, cardiovascular training, strength training, Pilates, yoga, and M.A.T. isometrics.
Using her years of dance as a guide, Catherine insists her clients maintain excellent postural alignment while training, and the addition of just a few M.A.T. isometric exercises helps clients overcome persistent muscular pain.
Catheirne studied modern dance, ballet, and jazz dance in childhood and continues to practice these art forms simply because they make her feel happy, and because they have a calming effect on her mood. After college, she performed professionally in New York City with such modern companies as the Israeli group, Par Parim, Eric Hawkins II dancers, and other independent choreographers. When she moved to Boston and joined the Lenard Fitness team, it was one of the best learning experiences of her life. Being a fitness trainer and learning the secrets of the trade has allowed her to continue practicing dance without pain as though she were still as agile as a twenty-year-old.
She teaches and trains clients as young as six and as wise as ninety-five. Catherine enjoys the many differences in needs every age group brings. Teaching swimming is also one of her joys. she swam competitively in high school and taught her best friend on the team to flip-turn. the most rewarding thing is seeing a person get over fear of the water and fly across the pool with confidence.
Type I diabetes has been a crucial element of Catherine's life since she was two. She hopes to help other people with diabetes take charge of their health through exercise and healthy living habits. Catherine, along with heer sister, Roberta, President of Lenard Fitness, trained under the renowned Joslin Clinic medical team and then developed the Dia-beat-it!(TM) fitness program, tailored to help people with Tyoe I and II diabetes get in shape and get control of their diabetes. Catherine supports the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the American Diabetes Association in honor of her father who was a Type II diabetic.
